He has gone somewhere by himself. While he's there, he will feel unhappy.

The sentence doesn't say so, but the reader will understand that the place the person has gone to is somewhere isolated where the person won't see other people.

He wants to grieve in private. He wants to think about the situation without people bothering him. They may mean well but he does not need them right now.
