can u please tell me what hind-end means here. i don't think it means butt.

I don't think anybody can top the one,however, that happened to your author in the early 70s while working with a major business machinemanufacturer. Our effort was designed to get leads for salesmen and we were dropping millionsof pieces of mail a year. By finding the right premium, we jumped hind-end response from under2% to over 7%.

Could you possibly be referring to 'high-end' and 'low-end' rather than 'hind-end'?

I wonder if it means that this is the final source of new subscription/purchase - the hind end of the response to a mailing? Which they have managed to increase by 5% through clever mailing and clever pricing.
