In this paragraph:
Often in films where there's a relationship with a young girl and an older man, the girl is the victim but Ellen is not in any way a victim. Ironically it's John, the guy who has held himself out as this player, who's really caught up in the moment who can't move on
What does held himself out mean here? Maybe "he keeps the field within his rol (as a player)
I also find bizarre this who. Wouldn't it be better in the moment that he can't move on?
Any help very appreciated
