Every time you enter a grant competition you're competing with everybody else—Alzheimer's researchers, Parkinson's researchers—so, unsurprisingly, the grant funding authority often opts for where they'll get the most for their money.

Every time you enter a grant competition you're competing with everybody else (a host/all other researchers)—Alzheimer's researchers, Parkinson's researchers—so, unsurprisingly,(it is not surprising that) the grant funding authority often opts for where(the research) they'll get the most for their money.

How can I read following? - Could you please reword this sentence as it is not clear?

I presume you mean a research grant to fund a research. I don't think it is called a competition. You apply for the grant and they they award it to the most deserving applicant/the research which will generate the highest return.

I wanted to say "Could you please reword this sentence as it is not clear?"(as you tell me) and, if possible, please give me some explanations about grammar and terms.

Thank you!
