The real damage to race relations in the south came not from slavery, but from Reconstruction, which would not have occurred if the South had won

Hi you,
What about?
It wasn't slavery but Reconstruction, which would not have occured had the South won, that caused the real damage to race relations in the south.
Bye.

Hi susiedqq,
Good job! Just one question!. I'm not a native speaker and I would like to know whether there is an important difference between yours and mine. Is it just a matter of giving greater emphasis and relevance to 'reconstruction' in your sentence or is there something else to it? That is, is mine ok as well, or there is a subtle nuance I fail to get. Thanks in advance.
Regards.
