Say, I am working in a hotel and when a guest comes in I want to know ask the number of people come with him/her. Is that the question ?

" May I know how many of you " ?

I wish to know the typical way of saying so :p . Hopefully this is it :)

hotel check-in

Hotel Clerk:

How many (people) will there be?
How many will you (plural) be?
How many will be checking in (with us)?

Cybil: There'll be just 7 of us today.

:D

How many?

"How many are in your group?" is, I think, a question that is commonly asked in such situations.

Thanks Cas and Ron :)

Simple form of speech can easily put non-native speakers down so often :p

I think I know what you mean to say. Please tell me if I am right.

  • Learning English is sometimes frustratingly difficult because something that seems like it should be easy isn't easy.

(You can't use putdown, because a putdown is an insult.)

Being a native speaker, I have an enormous advantage, because I "pick things up" just by hearing them. However, it did take me decades to get to where I am.
