Dear teachers,
I happened several times that when I post a question under 'Author' there is Guest. Often under 'Author' there is my name Jiang. So there must be something wrong with my procedure. I do it this way:
1. Click on Forum. 2. Log in. 3. Click on Ask a Teacher. 4. Post my question.
Could you please tell me if this procedure is correct or not?

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you in advance.

Hi ,
I am not a teacher but I like to answer you. :)

This happens because your session time out. Maybe you take a long time in typing questions so your session unders a user name 'jiang' sign out and that's why when you post it appears with a name "guest".

You can do one thing before logging type your all question and after login just copy and past them.

We shouldn't still be having "timing out" problems here. I think Red fixed that long ago.

Every now and then, the first sign-in doesn't take. That happens to me periodically. Afetr you sign-in and go to the folder, check at the top under Log out and see if your name is there. If it isn't, log in again. That works for me.

hmm but then why it logout users and ask for loging in again?? It's simply a session timeout condition.I don't know what scripting Red is using but I know that when user don't request a new page after a specific minutes ASP cancel the session and release all or some of the resources so it can be assign to next login user.Another timeout is script timeout and it is in seconds whereas session timeout is in minutes and it is 20 minutes by default.

I never get that on my computer at home, but I do get it occasionally elsewhere. ;-)

Therein lies the problem. :-|

Previously, the Ask a Teacher link on the left hand menu used a javascript link to pop up a box where you could enter your question. This works well on other areas of the site, but in the forum it would mean that your login information would be ignored. The popup box used throughout the site is designed for new users.

Within the forum, I've now made the Ask a Teacher link go to a standard forum page, so this problem should not happen again. ;-)

Thank you very much for your explanation. However, I am afraid I have to bother you again.

I'd like to make sure that I am correct this time. However, I can't find this 'Standard forum page'. Is it on-site English Forum in the middle of the columns? Could you please kindly tell me the steps of doing it?

To save your time I am listing the steps ( I think some of them are correct) I used to take to post my questions so you can delete or add as it is needed.
1. Click on Forum in the first line between Memembers and About.
2. ESL Forum Home.
3. Log in.
4. Click Ask a Teacher on the left under Menu.
5. Submit

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you in advance.

I haven't experienced a time out in months. Often I get called away from the computer when I am in the middle of a lengthy response. When I get back, everything is still as it was. :D

Thank you very much for asking the question. I haven't posted a question up till now. I'll post some in one or two hours. I'll tell you whether or not it works.

Best wishes,

Dear Red5,
I posted questions following the precedure I listed yesterday just now. Unfortunately it didn't work. Guest appeared under Author.

Maybe I should type my questions and then log in before I post the questions. It's possible there is something wrong with my computer.

Sorry to bother with such a small issue.

Best wishes,

Jiang
