In Bengali, you say dhoukito.

In Spanish, it's lo siento, but I've heard some people say perdon

we say different things in different context.

1) affedersin (e.g. when you step on someone's toe)
2) kusura bakma (e.g. when you are late)
3) özür dilerim (e.g. when you want to apology)
4) üzgünüm (actually this word is not used as frequent as the previous ones, sounds a bit translation from other languages)

no1,2 and 3 are interchangeable

In the Philippines we don't normally use our own language when we say sorry. We just say "I'm sorry" or "sorry na" but in the olden times it was "Ipagpatawad mo", it's indeed a deep word here nowadays but you will hear it in the lyrics of the songs or other types of poetry.

You will be able to note it from the upper-class and even... However, as you may observe, it takes a long time to say the whole sentence, that is why it is rarely used - to say almost no used.

(the expression comes from : Özür (wich is arabic at first) apology. then : ederim : the verb 'etmek'='do' in general present (adding -e or -i then -r, "t" is changed to "d" according to the phoenetic rules) : Eder + im (im means me)
