I am wondering if my sentences sound natural.Would you please correct my mistakes?

Hundreds of people waited since midnight in a queue at a London shop to buy a new model of iPhone. When the door finally opened, mayhem broke out, and people shoved and pushed each other as if they were fighting for their lives.

Hundreds of people waited [STRIKE]since[/STRIKE] from midnight in a queue at a London shop to buy a new model of iPhone. When the door finally opened, mayhem broke out, and people shoved and pushed each other as if they were fighting for their lives.

See above. With "since", we use the present perfect/past perfect (or the continuous) but not the past simple.

I have been waiting since midnight.
I have been in this queue since midnight.
They had been queuing since midnight.

I would shorten the opening to "Hundreds of people queued from midnight at an Apple store to buy the new iPhone".
