I have problems with hyphenated words in dictations. Is there a rule? Could you give me some tips or show me a site where I can learn more things about them. Thanks!

The best advice I can give you about hyphenated words is to consult a dictionary. That is the way to be sure.

Unfortunately, hyphenation of words occurs for many reasons. Sometimes, words are hyphenated because a combination of two words produces spelling that can be difficult from a pronunciation standpoint. In other cases, the hyphenation represents an intermediate stage in the process of two words sealing together to form a one-word compound. Because many words are in this latter process, it is difficult to know where a particular word is in the process.
