I don't know if "study" or "take" is correct here?

I don't want to waste my time studying for/taking an entrance exam, so I decide to continue my education in a foreign country.

Either one would work here. It just depends if you want to emphasize the studying or the exam itself as the waste of time.

Note the necessary tense correction in the final clause.
