I have already bought as much time as I could

Can I say "I have already bought as much time as I could"? For example here are a few sentences.

1) John to Carter: I have been delaying taking part in that IQ test because I wanted to buy some time in order to prepare myself.
2) It seems now can't wait any longer I will have to go for this. I have already bought as much time as I could.
