I was especially interested in Armenian history. Not only do I feel I should know about my national identity and (I should know about) how it has come to be what it is today, but I also don't think I would know where history is going if I didn't know where it had been.

1)Is the bold part embedded correctly as a part of the parallel structure?
2)Could you please tell me what underlined part mean? I couldn't figure its meaning out.

1)Is the bold part embedded correctly as a part of the parallel structure?

If you mean, "Should the bold phrase be included?", my answer is no.

Thank you Raymott. No I didn't mean that. Actually, I meant if the bold part could be the part of the parallel structure or not. What jutfrank answered was what I wanted. Thank you all.
