I just read the following sentence.

" Unfortunately, I was not part of the group at that time, otherwise would have tried it earlier."

Can I use "else" here in place of "otherwise" ?

Please get into the habit of telling us the source and author of any text you quote.

'I' is missing after 'otherwise'.

You can't use 'else' alone to replace 'otherwise', but you can use 'or else'.

I read this on social media so it might not be 100% correct grammatically. I was just trying to understand the overall meaning of the sentence and trying to modify the sentence.

Can you please tell me this one is correct or not ?

"or else" doesn't work there either. You can use:

... otherwise I would have tried it earlier.
... or I would have tried it earlier.

Note my corrections to your earlier posts above. Do not leave a space after opening quotation marks or before a question mark.
