I was watching TV last night.

I think it is grammatically correct, but does it sound natural?

Thank you.

Thank you, Soup.

Isn't it better to say " I watched TV last night." or "I was watching TV then?"

Hey tzfujimino

Both are correct. One's the simple past and the other is the past continuous. The difference between the two is much like, say, expressing an event as a photo (simple past) or as a video (past continuous).

1. I watched TV last night. :tick: [photo]
2. I was watching TV last night. :tick: [video]

:-D;-)

Tzfujimino should also know that it is not always possible to use the above tenses interchangeably, trying to convey the same idea with both of them.

That's true. For example,

I wrote a letter on the plane. (the action was fulfilled completely, the letter was finished)
I was writing a letter on the plane. (activity is emphasised, no information whether the letter was finished or not)

Spot-on.
