I would like to meet Florence Nightingale, who was born in a rich family but dedicated herself to the care for the poor. I have read about how she nursed and treated many of the wounded soldiers, about how Florence Nightingale used to clean the hospitals and how she became successful in brining down the death rates of the soldiers.
What struck me most was how she used to go around silently at night carrying a lamp and checking on each patient, even after everyone had gone to sleep. I like the name she got, "The lady with the lamp."
Another person I would like to meet is Mother Teresa for her contribution for the welfare of the poor.
Nice choice, atlaisha! How about another famous Persian...Xerxes? I really enjoyed studying his battles with the ancient Greeks!

John F. Kennedy When I was a teenager, John Kennedy inspired me, as well as millions of other Americans, to become active in public service. As a direct result of his influence I became a teacher. "Ask not what your country can do for you...Ask what you can do for your country!"
I would like to meet Winston Churchill! He was such a feisty little fellow! His courage and devotion to the people of Britain during World War II was truly amazing!

Winston Churchill is one of those figures in history that always calls into question his greatness to many people. One thing that has always impressed me about Churchill is his use of the English language and his "turn of phrase".
Google for his quotations and find out!
Batfink, thank you for your comments!
I am curious and perhaps you can help me! In my travels through this forum I have not met many native Irishmen! Have you encountered many of your countrymen in the forum?
