Hello all,
Is this kind of a comma splice sentence?

"If you destroy something, it is so badly damaged, it cannot be used again."

Re: comma splice sentence

It's much better as:

If you 'destroy' something, it is so badly damaged that it cannot be used again.

I don't consider this a comma splice. It is not an example of independent sentences joined by a comma.

The above is equivalent to "If you destroy something, then it is so badly damaged that it cannot be used again."

The following is an example of a comma splice:

"I saw her at the market, she was buying potatoes."

Re: comma splice sentence

You can do without "that". In that case, you just write: "If you destroy something, it is so badly damaged it cannot be used again". You don't need a comma before "it".

Re: comma splice sentence

I agree. I don't like the second comma.

Nininaz, I have changed your thread title. Title should include some or all of the words/phrases you are asking us about.

Thanks all for your replies and great help.
As a conclusion, I feel that If the sentences cab be connected logically, using comma between them are not regarded as a comma splice sentence.
