Hi! What is the exact meaning of the following passage? It is from a political telegram, dating back to 1953, with a special shortened style. ( I will edit the text, if disordered, after submitting it). I am not sure about the exact meaning of it, because it is delicate due to its nature. It is on an oil dispute.

"We stated we believe this would put you in impossible position as conversations based upon 15 January drafts as now modified, but excluding alternative section on method of payment and the concession on the matter of interest payments, would be certain to be of extremely short duration."

Thanks very much.

If you are in an impossible situation, you cannot do what is expected of you. Without seeing the details, it is hard to guess what this situation was.
