Is the use of "for harvesting" in the following sentence correct grammatically and conceptually? If it is not , kindly suggest ways to make it clearer.

In addition to before mechanisms for harvesting the energy, Dan Zhao et al. [5] showed that the energy also can be harvested through the bladeless systems (‘small’ or ‘micro’ harvesters). These kinds of systems are becoming more and more popular due to the high power to weight ratio and reduced visual and ecological impacts in comparison with the large harvesting systems.

The mechanisms have mentioned in the preceding text.

'In addition to before mechanisms for harvesting the energy,' doesn't make sense.

Is it OK?

Dan Zhao et al. [5] showed that, in addition to the aforementioned mechanisms for harvesting the energy, it can also be harvested through the bladeless systems (‘small’ or ‘micro’ harvesters).

Is [STRIKE]it[/STRIKE] this OK?

The definite article that I colored blue above is correct only if specific bladeless systems have been mentioned previously. If you haven't already discussed bladeless systems, omit it.
