Hi,
As far as I know "at" is used with "party". But do you know any instance in which "in" is used instead of "at"?

I mean a social event when a lot of people meet together to enjoy themselves by eating, drinking, dancing etc.

I think we can't use "in" with "party".

Have you ever seen "in" to be used instead of "at"?

In BrE, no.

I was at a party.
They were at the party.
Why were you at the party?

Of course, in a different context, it's fine. If you're talking about membership of a political party, then someone is "in the xxx party".

If one person books for a number of people, the group can be called a party, so if you arrived late, you could say you you were in xxxx's party to be shown to the right table.

If one person books for a number of people
Thank you but what does this mean? "books for a number of people"?

I phone for a reservation in a restaurant, saying 'I'd like to book a table for six at 8.15, please'.

I have booked for six people.

If Rover does this, then I say that I am in Rover's party when I arrive to be shown to the table as my name was not given in the booking.
