At the same time, there were some boys who didn't shave their heads. They supported Dominic in other ways, like donating money. Seniors and teachers collected $ 5,000 in total for Dominic.

Is the line in bold equal to the following? Thanks.

Senior students and teachers donated $5,000 totally for Dominic.

There is a slight diffrence, but the end-effect is the same in this case: the money is for Dominic

5000 in total: they collected the total amount of 5000 Dollars and gave it to Dominic

...5000 dollars totally for Dominic.: They donated 5000 for Dominic and probably another 5000 for Peter.

cheers:cool:
