Dear teachers,

I have two questions to ask:

No.1
To relieve the pain_______.
a. the medicine prescribed by the doctor was taken by the man
b. the doctor gave the man the medicine he prescribed
c. the man took the medicine that was prescribed by the doctor

The key is "c". I think the meanings of "a" and "c" are the same. "c" is correct because the subject should agree with the logical subject of "To relieve the pain". And the logical subject is "the man" . Is that right?

No.2
I get a little bit confused by "acquire" and "gain". The following is from the dictionary:
During this period he acquired a reputation for being a womanizer.
Since both "acquire" and "gain" bear the meaning of "obtain" can I replace "acquire" with "gain" in the above sentence?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.

C is correct because active voice usage is apt
