Is an "-ing" verb still called a participle when it functions as an adverb?

Examples:

The man writing (adjective) the story is nuts.

The man went nuts writing (adverb) the story.

Thank you.

He went home Monday.

In the sentence above, Monday, a noun, functions as an adverb by modifying the verb (when).

:)

The man went nuts writing (adverb) the story.

So, you are saying that "writing" is a gerund (noun) stating "how" he went nuts.
