I don't get what "initial decision" implies to. It implies what : spending the weekend with K's family or setting their own for a spontaneous adventure?

Here is the text:

"It's the Fourth of July, and Kate (Collins) and Bobby (Gordon-Levitt) are struggling to make a decision: do they stick with tradition and spend the weekend with Kate's family, or do they set out on their own for a spontaneous adventure? After making their initial decision, an alternate narrative emerges to show just what would have happened had they chosen to do otherwise. As the stories diverge and a "what if" scenario becomes reality, it soon becomes apparent how much one seemingly minor decision can ultimately affect the rest of our lives."

It doesn't say which alternative they chose just that they made a choice. Then, apparently, the narrative explores what might have happened had they made a different choice.

The original example shows that the people involved had 2 choices. They made their "initial decision" - ie, they decided between the two. The article does not state which one they chose, only that they made their decision. The story then goes on to explain what would have happened had they chosen the alternative option. At no point, in this excerpt, does it tell you which option they chose. I assume it becomes clear in the rest of the narrative which one it was.
