Insomnia

I sleep in fits and starts. And pauses.
Never mind the rest.
And when sleep does come
It is an unbidden guest.
I snooze during the day
Because I can't sleep at night.
I just never can get
The timing right.

It's the spirit that inspires me,
Because when you get angry
I love you even more
Than I did before.

And when you get that special light
In your eyes
And the sound of your laughter
Fills the skies
I couldn't love you more.

All of me loves all of you.
I love you more every day.
I love you more in every way
Always and forever with a love that's true.

Nothing

Take nothing from nothing and you get nothing.
You can't add nothing to nothing and get something.
Add nothing to nothing and you get nothing.
Add nothing to nothing and you don't get anything.
That's nothing.
Not something.
It's nothing.
It isn't anything.
Interesting,
But what is the thing?
It's nothing.
No thing.

The Girl In The Red Shirt

There was a girl in a red shirt
Writing in her poetry book.
Every once in a while
I would steal a look.
What was she writing?
What was she going to do?
Would I be treated
To hearing something new?
Hm. When we make assumptions
Ourselves we do deceive.
For what did she do
But get up and leave!

Angel Of Mercy

Angel of mercy,
She tends to her flock.
She is a blessing
In a hospital smock.
She is so dutiful and resourceful,
But open to suggestion
That even a hug
Is not out of the question.
When I hear the word "nurse"
There are three things I think of:
Duty, tirelessness,
And inexhaustible love.

The New Math

Half is exaggeration.
Half is knocking the other guys.
Half is hyperbole,
Half is lies.
Half and half and half and half is
Four halves, as I surmise.
Must be the kind of math required
When you advertise.
