Hi, my dear teachers. Long time no see. (Of course, I can't see you.;-)) I need your guidance again.

India belongs to the developing countries.

Is this sentence grammartically right? Some say "countries" should be in the singular form
But I think "belong to" means "be a member of", so "countries" should be in the plural form.
Is my understanding right?
Thanks a lot. I am waiting for your answer.
:)

It would be more natural as "India is a developing country". If you want to use your original sentence, "countries" is correct.
