Hi,

Rather than post a new topic I thought I'd ask this one which is of the same ilk!!!!!

"Personally it is a matter of principal but the chance of getting someone to change it for you are very slim."

In this example would it be just a matter of preference/taste whether you used is or are where I have highlighted? I personally prefer are!

Many thanks

I would say:
"Personally it is a matter of principal but the chance of getting someone to change it for you is very slim."

or

"Personally it is a matter of principal but the chances of getting someone to change it for you are very slim."
