Do the following two sentences mean the same?

1- If you find her, ask her "why did you do it?".

2- If you find her, ask her why she did it.

Do the following two sentences mean the same?

1- If you find her, ask her "Why did you do it?" (No full stop required here.)

2- If you find her, ask her why she did it.

They are two different ways of describing the same situation, yes.
