See my changes above. It wouldn't work as a standalone sentence. It could appear after a semi-colon.

This experiment is very detailed; hence its use in this study.

You could create a context where it could be seen as a complete sentence, but it would require extra context as it clearly follows something else:

Jim: The new assessment formula is an improvement on the old.
Joan: Hence its use in this study.
