[Grammar] Is this paragraph grammatically correct?

Is the above paragraph grammatically correct?

I've passed many an exam with flying colors without even taking the [strike]bother[/strike] time (or "without even bothering") to flip through the text books, not even on the eve of the exams. But, as fate would have it, for once, when I actually took the [strike]pain[/strike] time/trouble to prepare for an exam, I flunked it, squarely but not fairly.


Is the above paragraph grammatically correct?
