"I wouldn't want to tell her about my loss so that she would feel sorry for me"
I have some doubts about this sentence - would anyone please confirm or dispel my suspicions?

The sentence is a little ambiguous. The construction of the sentence indicates that you expect that "If you don't tell her about your loss" it will lead her to feel sorry for you.

I suspect, though, that you may mean to say something else, namely, that "I really don't want her to feel sorry for me." Therefore, "I won't tell her about my loss."

If this is, indeed, the case, you might want to make it clearer by writing something to the effect of:
"I wouldn't want to tell her about my loss [STRIKE]so that she would[/STRIKE] just to make her feel sorry for me."
