Wretched and piteous as he is, he admits his faults.
it is correct. even if he is deserving of pity, he does not take advantage of that soliciting sympathy. he admits he is wrong whenever he is. (Sounds like a disciplined guy to me.)

I'm not talking about meaning hear, however. I want to know if it is grammaticaly corrct!

I know. It's a problem with English that it doesn't have a neutral pronoun for people.
