No, it's not right.
William Golding is not famous for English literature as much as he is for cooking. (He is better known for his cooking than his writing.)
William Golding is not as famous for English literature as Shakespeare. (Shakespeare is more famous that Golding in the field of English literature.)
(I wouldn't write the second one that way, myself.)
