Is this the right way to say this

I'm trying to explain that something had to be done, but with an imperative

Talking about some future action.

Something must be done!

Talking about some past action.

Something had to be done!

Dduck has it exactly right. (I recommend against using must had.)

You could also say:

  • Something has to be done.

Or:

  • Somebody's got to do something.

Or (perhaps more emphatic):

  • Something has to be done. Now!

:)

'Must' is followed by a bare infinitive, so 'must had' is, IMO, simply wrong. ;-)
