is/was...to have met

Hi,

It is/was nice to have met you.

Is there a difference between using 'is' and 'was' in the above sentence? I think we should 'is' at the beginning of the conversation and 'was' at the end of it.

With 'to have met you' in the sentence I would use was. It's not a firm rule though.


It is nice to meet you. / It was nice to have met you.

However, what you'll hear in everyday English is "It was nice to meet you" (after meeting someone for the first time).
