I'm writing a scientific article and not sure if this sentence makes sence..

"Although, ethnic difference in the frequency of congenital heart disease has been reported, it is opposed by our finding, and instead this may reflect an advance in diagnostic techniques..."

I want to say that our finding is opposite to the previous report.

"Although ethnic difference in the frequency of congenital heart disease has been reported, this is contradicted by our finding, and instead, may reflect an advance in diagnostic techniques..."

Even though you may have investigated just one variable, it is still usual to report your 'findings' - plural - unless this is within the body of the report where you are getting down to comparing results for a specific variable ....which seems to be the case in this sentence.
