I met this sentence in an test paper:
That Despatie won the men's 3m springboard title was difficult.

I doubted that the sentence was good English. I thought we should say 'it was difficult for Despatie to win...' or 'Despatie had great difficulty winning...'
Am I right in thinking it?

I don't like the original much; it would work with other adjectives, like 'unexpected'. Your versions work better IMO. ;-)
