[Grammar] its low cost / low cost

"The greatest advantage of taking the bus is its low cost."

In the sentence above, is the possessive pronoun "its" absolutely necessary? It seems to me if we omit "its", the sentence still makes sense. Am I right? Thank you.

If you leave out 'its' you need to replace it with 'the'.
