Hello guys,

I am really having a hard time with this one and I am not sure if I'd even be able to explain this to you clearly but here it is:

What makes you think you would've given me the money even if I had asked for it?

The part I have underlined and italicized is what I don't want use. I want to say and mean the same thing without using the "what makes you think" part. So my implication in the sentence is that "you wouldn't have given me the money even if I had asked for it" but I want to say the same thing in a more "questioning" way, if that makes sense? Not native.

And now I am doubtful about my sentence too. Is it that it should have been "What makes you think you'd given me the money even If would've asked for it?"

Please help. Lots of thanks!

I don't think you would have given me the money even if I had asked for it (, would you?)
You wouldn't have given me the money even if I had asked for it, would you?
Would you have given me the money if I had asked for it?

I think we have two common rules for question tag?
1.The general rule f thumb says that the tag question relates to the first verb in the statement.
2-The tag question derives from the verb immediately preceding it. = I think this rule applies to your examples.

I am familiar with the following rules:
Positive statement = Negative Question Tag.
Negative statement = Positive Question Tag.

Question:

1.Shouldn't would in your first tag question be wouldn't?

Thank you.

1.Shouldn't would in your first tag question be wouldn't?
No. The negation comes from the 'don't think'

I don't think you would = I think you wouldn't.
