Full context probably shows that it is the Long Island Expressway.

Anglika, I am impressed! How did you figure out that LIE meant Long Island Expressway? There was absolutely nothing in cmp's post to indicate this possibility!

Cheers,

The number of posts where the information is available a few keystrokes away these days. Perhaps we should also be showing posters how to seek out information for themselves.

The context is traffic, and we have the acronym LIE

Put 'LIE traffic' into Yahoo and what do we find?

Hi, David!

Thanks for your quick reply!

Obviously, I was so shocked by Anglika's detailed response that I foolishly never even thought about the Google possibility!

When the Brits start throwing around common American acronyms as if they are routinely discussed over tea and crumpets it is time for the Yanks to stand up and applaud! :)

Best wishes for a great week!

Cheers,
Amigo

I grew up in New York, so it was obvious to me, but then I moved here (near Philadelphia), and none of the route numbers are used - it's all nicknames! I wonder how anyone new ever gets around.

Hi, I've indeed put 'LIE' into Yahoo...but not 'LIE traffic' as you mention...But Anglika is always of a great help. When I'm in 'trouble' and post, I always expect Anglika to answer!
