What are the most common problems ESL students face while learning listening? Possible solutions?

This varies greatly depending on level, first language, etc. One of the great problems are the sound changes in connected speech, the weak forms, intrusive letters, etc. In the UK,many students say they find some regional accents difficult. ;-)
