Although the video went for months without drawing attention, it spread quickly after it was posted on a militant Islamic Web site.

Dear Teachers, I am not familiar with the "go" used in that sentence. Could you please give me some more examples with that "go"? I think that would help me grasp its meaning and usage. Thanks very much! :)

go for, in that context, means, be in a specified state for a period of time (e.g., He went for days without food or water. He didn't have food or water; The dent in the car went for weeks without notice. For weeks, no one noticed the dent in the car.)
