What does it mean: Lord above?

As an answer to the information like:
- your mother in law is going to visit us tomorrow.

Is it the same as: let the Lord protect us?

A native speaker would use "Lord Above" as a mild expletive, like "Blooming Heck" which is itself a polite form of "Bloody Hell".
Not many people would consider the religious significance of "Lord Above".
Similarly, "Oh, my God" is used without much thought as to what it means.

I agree about "Oh, my God," but I think that "Lord" gives a little more slant to the religious nature of the exclamation, particularly when coupled with words like "in heaven" or "above."

It's not meant as a serious prayer, though---it looks as though I've implied that, and I didn't mean to. "Angels and ministers of grace..." can serve as an expletive too, as can "Jesus, Mary and Joseph!" which was one of my mother's favorites.
