Background:
I wanted to know how the teacher would mark our projects.
Eg, what I should do in order to obtain a good result for the project.

Question:
Can I say the following sentence?

Sentence:
I tried to make sure how the marks would be given.

If you are directing your question to the teacher you could say, "Can you explain the criteria you use (or will use) to evaluate our (or my) project?".
If you are speaking to someone other than the teacher about the project, "I wanted to know the criteria to be used for evaluation of my project".
