I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

Maria invited some friends to tea. They had a great time, but when everyone left, she noticed that someone had nicked two expensive cups from the china cabinet.

I'd remove the comma after "time". Most of your writing is quite formal so "nicked" doesn't really fit. Use "taken" or "stolen".
