Dear teachers,

Would you please tell me what is the meaning of "market base"? I could not find the expression in any of the dictionaries I have. Unfortunately, I do not have the context in which the expression may appear. Could it mean "clientèle, customer" or something all together different?

Is there an online business dictionary I can consult?
I would be grateful if you could give me an answer today.

Thank you for your help.

Dear Casiopea,

1) May I ask what is the origin of your name ?

2) Does "market base" mean "principle or starting point"? Does this occur in a business context? Would you please give me examples?

3) What is a "market-base rate"?

4) What about "end user", does always refer to buyers of arms/weapons and technological products, or does it apply to any customer?

Thank you for your help.

One's market base is the total of customers that use or would be likely to use a product or a service. A market-based rate is a price that is developed by finding out what customers are willing to pay. This is done by surveying potential customers or by cpmaring the prices of similar products/services.

An end user is the person that actually uses a product. It differentiates purchasers who use products from those who sell or distribute products.
