I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct. I believe my second sentence doesn't sound natural, but I was unable to improve it.

Martin went to a cheap, shabby restaurant to eat, but to his surprise both food and wine were excellent. He chatted with the owner, who told Martin that everyone who ate once in his restaurant would usually come again.

Add "the" before "food". You can use "he" in place of Martin in the second sentence and delete "once".
