Is the following sentence correct?

Such a global world and economy necessitates regulation on a worldwide level.

or should it be:

Such a global world and economy necessitate regulation on a worldwide level. (thus without the 's' in necessitates??)

It really depends on whether you see the world and economy as a linked entity,in which case you could use the singular, or two separate things. I'd probably use the singular as they are intertwined in this context.;-)

I agree with TDOL. In certain cases, a compound subject can be viewed as a single entity. It would not be wrong to use the plural verb here, however. :wink:

Say global economy or world economy, and pare the unnecessary words.

I don't think I would use globalised except possibly as a verb. I do think global economy is preferable to world economy. (It is, at any rate, used more often, I think.)

(Easter was okay. I stayed home and my wife went to church. That reminds me of something. I bought a chocolate bunny a while back and now I am wondering what happened to it. :wink:

In BE, we used 'globalised' as an adjective. ;-)
