Happy New Year everyone, and here's my first question this year. :)

This is about a T-shirt my friend boutht from Canada on ebay.
The tag says "MADE IN MEXICO OF U.S. COMPONENTS".
Does it mean that the T-shirt was made in Mexico using components from U.S.?
Do you call materials such as thread "components"?

This just means the things the T-shirt is made of are manufactured in the USA.
They would then be transported to Mexico to be sewn together to make the T-shirt.

Thank you, buggles.

So...
1. Is it "MADE IN MEXICO and MADE OF U.S. COMPONENTS"? (That makes sense.)
2. Does "U.S.components" mean things from U.S. such as thread?

I would appreciate it if buggle or any native speakers could answer the above questions for confirmation. (Yes or No answers would be easier for me to understand).

1 Yes- they're using a shortened form to avoid repetition.
2 Components sounds strange to me for a T-shirt, but unless it is advertising a product, then the only logical conclusion is that they mean the thread. Maybe they have seen it used on other things like computers and applied it here. It doesn't sound natural to me, but T-shirts are one area where you will see the strangest English. ;-)

Now I completely understand! :)

Thank you, Tdol. I am very grateful that you, and other members, are here to help us (and to bring a smile to my face) still this year. :-D

They probably mean the fabric and the thread and even the tag are made in the US, but that the shirts are actually sewn in Mexico, where labor costs are much less expensive.
