I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

Michael, a travel writer by profession, had the scare of his life when the motor of the plane he was flying on caught fire. Luckily, the pilot had the presence of mind and skill to safely land in the national park, where the plane immediately drew attention of wild animals.

I will repeat my sentence after teechar's correction as an exercise.

Michael, a travel writer by profession, had the scare of his life when the engine of the plane he was flying on caught fire. Luckily, the pilot had the presence of mind and skill to safely land in a national park, where the plane immediately drew the attention of wild animals.

That works, but I would probably use "... the presence of mind and the skill ..." in the above.
